EIG competition



The European Investor Gate (EIG) invites innovative ICT researchers and entrepreneurs to participate in an intensive Preparation Programme to access International finance and markets.



CONCEPT

The EIG Competition is open for researchers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and first-time entrepreneurs in ICT sectors. EIG supports participants in developing compelling business strategies and to find the right investment partners.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?
Eligible participants developing a product/service making innovative use of ICT technologies and that applies to one of our 4 competition categories:


Visualization
includes all ideas that focus on the visualization of content like Augmented Reality, projection technologies, 3D, screen technologies etc.
 

Mobilization
includes all ideas that focus on managing and enabling mobility like location-based services, mobile devices, transportation, e-mobility etc.
 

Robotization
includes all ideas that are hardware technologies like robots, drones, human-machine interfaces, game equipment etc.
 
Socialization
includes all ideas that focus on connecting people, devices or networks like cloud computing, smart grids, big data algorithms etc.

INVESTOR-READINESS COACHING
EIG will put the selected companies through a rigorous “Investment Focused” coaching process, refining the skills of the participants while exposing them to the expectations of the investor community.

2. SILICON STROLL BOOTCAMP IN DUBLIN
Be selected as one of the 50 "most investable" star-ups by EIG and join us in Dublin!
The 50 selected participants will have the opportunity to attend a 2 day intensive Get Investor Ready Bootcamp, taking place in the silicon docklands of Dublin. The focus of the Bootcamp is to expose entrepreneurs to the “real life” expectations and requirements of the international investor community, with the outcome of optimising their chances of investment success.

Day one of the event will consist of intensive group mentoring sessions led by international investors and mentors from leading European business organisations, culminating in pitch battles
Day two of the event will kick off with a “Silicon Stroll” tour of Dublin’s ICT leviathans, followed by opportunities for select participants to pitch their ideas and receive industry and investor feedback. Furthermore, the Bootcamp will provide participants with the opportunity to network with international investors, leading European business organisations and experienced mentors.
 
Selected Top 8
8 winners will be selected from the Pitch battles and will benefit from exclusive one 2 one sessions with top tier ICT companies drawn from the hotbed of ICT Corporations in the locality

Selected Top 40
The 40 best promising participants will be selected at the Dublin Bootcamp and will have the opportunity to join an individual mentoring programme.

3. INDIVIDUAL COACHING AND MENTORING PROGRAMME
40 finalists will benefit from individual coaching sessions and a mentoring programme with high level international coaches.


E-PITCHES
EIG will give you the opportunity to participate in one of our e-pitching sessions. The sessions will take place in July, September, November and in January 2015 and for each session six European companies will be selected. Apply now and be selected as one of the companies or founders to pitch to European investors online - all you need is your webcam and a laptop!

EUROPEAN INVESTMENT FORA
In the course of the EIG project, 8 European Investment Fora will be organised with investment readiness sessions and pitching opportunities for the participating companies. The first of the three fora will take place in Brussels in connection to the NEM Summit.

CONNECT WITH INTERNATIONAL INVESTORS
The EIG project connects early stage, ICT research projects, start-ups and SMEs’ with international investors seeking new venture opportunities. EIG is an exclusive partner of the European investment platform EuroQuity, offering its members immediate access to a high caliber financial competence network of more than 6600 investors, 6500 entrepreneurs and 2500 advisors.

PITCHING AND FINAL EVENT
EIG offers you the opportunity to pitch your innovative business idea to equity investors during international investment events.
Selected participants of the competition will have the opportunity to pitch their project at the Bootcamp in Dublin, November 2014 and finalists may also be invited to join the final project event the Heidelberg Innovation Forum in April 2015.The best 3 projects will receive an award and will benefit from wide sector publicity.

CRITERIA

EXCLUSION AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
  • Participation to the EIG Competition is free of charge
  • The applicant is established in one of the 28 countries of the Member States of the EU
  • In case that there is a partnership, partners (legal or natural persons) should be established in these European Member States
  • The applicant has filled in his EuroQuity profile and registered in the EIG community as company or founder (researcher/founders)
  • The applicant confirmed participation to the competition by filling in the short EIG questionnaire
  • The selection will take place on an ongoing basis, for the bootcamp the application deadline is 30th September 2014.
  • The researcher or entrepreneur is developing a product/service making innovative use of ICT technologies in at least one of the above competition categories
 
SELECTION CRITERIA
  • ICT based product/service: the product/service is based on an ICT technology in at least one of the mentioned categories
  • Level of Innovation: the foreseen product/service has a strong innovation potential: is innovative and fresh compared to the current working method in the sector
  • Market potential: there is a strong potential market opportunity for the developed product/service
  • Implementability: there is a convincing access to market strategy for the product/service and competitive advantage. The business model shows good potential for scale
  • Target group: the product or service has a defined target group of customers
  • Team: the project has the full complement of skills required to deliver the plan
  • Financing: an elaborate financing strategy and cash flow plan is proposed to implement the project
